A Cautionary 'Tail'
With the big double bank holiday Jubilee weekend upon us, we make a plea to all anglers who will be out enjoying some fishing to increase their efforts to leave the beaches, lakesides and riverbanks even cleaner than they found them and avoid leaving rubbish behind.
A day at the beach with the kids and dog nearly ended unhappily for one of our staff members last weekend when they noticed their dog Molly acting strangely when they got home. She kept lying down and trying to tug something out of the fur on her rear leg.
A closer inspection revealed a big rusty treble hook had lodged itself deep in the fur but luckily not in her leg and perhaps even more fortuitously not yet in her mouth given the frantic efforts she was making to remove it herself.
A few quick snips with the scissors removed the offending object so Molly could return to normal but it just shows how we all need to be very careful not only with our hooks but of course old line, weights, packaging and all the other paraphenalia we carry along with us.
Please take care to never leave anything behind but particularly hooks which could as easily ended up in a childs foot as in Mollys.
